Thanks for restoring my faith in dentistry ,Greg ! I hadn't been to a dentist for a few years after a couple of bad experiences elsewhere . You were very helpful in explaining everything to me and it was great to actually see my teeth on the tv screen with your dental camera . I really felt that you cared about my teeth and gave me options about my treatment and all the costs were explained . The treatment was painless and I was made to feel very relaxed . I went to this dentist today and was charged £126.00! for a Scale and Polish i booked. I 'booked a scale & polish' with Judith (dentist) as Greg my dentist was un-available today.I did'nt think it mattered to see his wife as it was only suposed to be a Scale and Polish afterall. I believe i was in 40 minutes,10 minutes of that time was spent typing up on the computer/ apparently the dentist decided she had time as no patients so she took it upon herself to give me a consultation,EVEN tho shes not my dentist!the majority of that 40 minutes was spent explaining how to brush etc and floss etc All fair enough-but 40 minutes of constant preaching on hygeine and sales banter was far to much and that also cost me far to much. Had i have had my glass's with me i would not have paid that. 1) I can't comment on the scale,but the polish was one of the worst i've had to date.Some of my teeth are still stained.When i was given the mirror to have alook at the end, i commented how parts of the teeth had not polished up. She recommended i have tooth whitening! I complained and am waiting for a part refund of £42.00 and will go to another dentist and have them done properly. £42.00 apparently up to 10 minutes scale & polish and £84.00 over 10 minutes. Practice Response: In response to the above review we feel that we must clarify a few points . We take any complaint very seriously and we responded accordingly on the day and refunded the money immediately . For patients who do not attend on a regular basis it is imperative that we thoroughly examine their mouths when we see them in order to not only check their teeth and gum health , but to carryout an oral cancer check , particulary important for smokers , and report on the patient’s oral hygiene status . We obviously then discuss our findings with the patient as it is important that they understand the condition of their mouths and any problems they currently have or may develop in the future . Our fee for this service is £42 . In normal circumstances a regular examination and a scale and polish together at the same appointment with the dentist is £84 in total . In some cases more extensive scaling and polishing may be required , for example if the patient has not attended for some time , if they smoke , drink a lot of tea/coffee/red wine or are susceptible to excessive tartar build up . Consequently , some times a second appointment is needed to complete the procedure or if time allows , a longer session can be undertaken at the initial visit . We would then charge an additional £42 for a second scale and polish visit/extended visit . On this occasion a refund of £42 was given as the patient insisted that she had not asked for an examination . As an aside , some teeth can become stained within and no amount of polishing will remove the stains ,particularly in the above group of patients , so we do discuss tooth whitening with patients , if appropriate , as this will give them a much brighter smile .
